I was diagnosed with severe aortic stenosis (due to calcification of the aortic valve) in 2024. My condition stemmed from a congenital bicuspid valve, which was detected in a mild form back in 2012 but gradually progressed to a severe stage over the years. This was confirmed during an annual health check-up, where I was advised to undergo aortic valve replacement (AVR) along with ascending aorta replacement surgery.

While searching for alternatives, I came across Ayurvedic approaches for valvular disease and was particularly impressed by Dr. Mithra’s research work. I contacted him in 2024 and have been receiving treatment under his care since then.

Although I was largely asymptomatic, I had occasional warning signs such as momentary fixation of eyesight (pre-syncope), strong pounding sensations in the aortic area, and irregular health markers including elevated SGOT/SGPT, fatty liver, obesity, and high uric acid. This note is intended to provide an overview of my heart condition, the circumstances that led me to seek Ayurvedic care, and my experience with the treatment.

In October 2023, I was diagnosed with severe aortic valve regurgitation. The treating hospital in the U.A.E. strongly recommended immediate open-heart surgery for valve replacement, warning that delaying the procedure could result in heart failure. Concerned about the invasive nature of such surgery, I decided to explore alternative treatment options.

After careful consideration, I consulted Dr. M.P. Mithra at the Ayulife Heartcare Centre, Kottayam. A comprehensive evaluation suggested that my valve insufficiency was likely related to rheumatic fever I had experienced during early childhood. Based on these findings, I began Ayurvedic treatment in November 2023, following the prescribed regimen and dietary guidelines with diligence. Prior to starting therapy, I underwent 3D Cardio Vasculography, which confirmed the echocardiogram results and showed increased wall thickness of the left ventricle—a condition that had been causing mild chest heaviness and discomfort, especially when lying on my left side.

As of August 2025, after twenty-two months of consistent treatment, I have experienced remarkable clinical improvements. These include an improved ejection fraction, reduction in left ventricular enlargement, and the ability to carry out mild and routine physical activities comfortably. Most importantly, I have been able to avoid open-heart surgery.

These outcomes reflect a highly favorable response to Ayurvedic care, supported by timely follow-ups from Dr. Mithra regarding my progress and overall well-being. I remain deeply grateful for his expertise and guidance, and I truly consider it God’s grace that I was led to his healing hands.

I first consulted Dr. M.P. Mithra in 2002 due to leg pain and swelling in my knees. After careful examination and blood tests, he observed that my ASO titre levels were above the normal range. I took the medicines prescribed by him for about one and a half years, after which my ASO titre readings returned to normal. He also advised me to repeat the test periodically, as this factor could affect the heart.

In 2004, a scan of my uterus revealed fibroids, and the gynecologist advised laparoscopy. Instead, under Dr. Mithra’s guidance, I took Ayurvedic medicines for three months. In the follow-up scan, all the cysts had completely disappeared.

In October 2019 — fifteen years later — I began facing serious issues with my heart and lungs. I was unable to walk even short distances or climb steps. On Dr. Mithra’s advice, I underwent blood tests and a 3D Cardiovascular Cartography at Coimbatore Universal Medical Centre. The results showed four blocks in my heart, including two major ones (94% and 82%), along with abnormal valve size. Dr. Mithra prescribed medication, which I continued faithfully for two and a half years. In the subsequent scan, it was found that there were no blocks in my heart and the valve size had returned to normal.

In the meantime, I developed allergies accompanied by facial and foot edema, facial discoloration, and severe hair fall. I first consulted an allopathic doctor, but the treatment did not help. Thereafter, I sought the care of Dr. Mithra, whose treatment relieved me of these symptoms completely.
